Thanks for the comment. I intentionally decided to package it together this way, even though I know it makes for a longer read.
From my perspective, too often "personal growth" conversations are separate from discussions about social/cultural systems. I see that as problematic for two reasons: 1. It makes it easier for people to ignore the systemic pieces, and supports attitudes that personal effort alone is necessary/sufficient. 2. It makes it harder for people to know what they can do about large-scale systemic issues, and furthers feelings of helplessness/powerlessness.
This article directly addresses how both of these challenges can be met, and it required talking about both pieces and how they work together.
Also, I wrote it from my own first-hand experience, especially because that is aligned with the beliefs expressed in the article, and that meant personal pieces were necessarily embedded.
